Hamilton GO Centre

Hamilton GO Centre is the GO Transit commuter train stop and bus terminal. Located on Hunter and Hewson Streets in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Unlike other GO stations where only city bus routes can be transferred, this station also serves as an intercity bus terminal. Thus Greyhound Canada (plateform 11) and Coach Canada (plateform 12 and 13) intercity buses stop at this transit stations.

Hamilton GO Centre history

The Hamilton GO Centre is a modern Art Deco and Streamline style building constructed by New York architects Felheimer & Wegner. It was previously intended to be a huge complex. But it has been reduced to a seven-storey office building. Opened in 1933 as the headquarters of the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railways and the Hamilton train station. TH&B’s passenger service was terminated on April 26, 1981. Also the facility was abandoned in 1987 with the merger of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

However, since the 1990s, GO Transit has been operating peak hour commuter trains along the CN Grimsby line to Hamilton’s CNR station, about 1.6 km north of the station. And buses serve John and Rebecca Streets in downtown Hamilton. The existing TH&B station has been renovated to become the Hamilton GO Centre to ensure that buses and GO commuter trains pass through downtown Hamilton. Thus they are properly connected to the City of Hamilton’s bus routes. After that the new station facility was designed by Gaud Jones & Hanham Architects and reopened on April 30, 1996.
